With 11gR2, Oracle has introduced the “Grid Infrastructure Technology Stack”. This applies to both clustered and non-clustered environments. Oracle ASM is now a part of the grid infrastructure and is not tied to the database home anymore. With 11gR2, new features have been introduced to make planning and managing the infrastructure a lot easier and consistent.
